Alternating Frequency-Directed Equal-Run-Length Coding

This chapter presents a new encoding scheme called alternating frequency-directed equal-run-length (AFDER) coding for test data compression. This encoding scheme together with nine-coded compression technique enhance the test data compression ratio. In the first stage, the pre-generated test cubes with unspecified bits are encoded using nine-coded compression scheme. Later, the proposed encoding scheme exploit the properties of compressed data to enhance the test data compression. This multistage compression is effective especially when the percentage of don’t cares in a test set is very high. We present decoder architecture to decode the original data before applying to scan-chain. Analysis of test application time using the proposed decompression architecture is also provided.
